Gun Log 5.1 under development

Gun Log version 5.1 is well underway. One of the main goals is to make custom lists. I do not want to be adding weapon makers, calibers, and the such for years to come.

Look, an action type! Requested by the users in Australia.

Notice the larger notes fields. Also, is the firearm personal or issued? Maybe your job, such as law enforcement issues you a firearm.

Back at the top of the weapon details, tap the "Make" button for this new "Maker Picker".
Tap the "Compose" button at top right to create custom entries.

Just enter some text, tap the blue "+" button to add it to the list, tap "Done" at the bottom right when finished.

Look, there it is!

If you show "All" the list is sorted and there is our customer maker!

Default just shows the built in values.

Calibers can have custom entries as well.

Custom caliber entries are at the bottom of the list when showing "All".

Gun Log 5.1 is a significant change. It will be several more weeks before it is finished. When it is done, the Gun Log database will not be compatible with Gun Log +P, this day has been coming for a while. When I update Gun Log +P I will see if it is possible to make it compatible.

I will probably evaluate a price change for Gun Log after 5.1 releases and is shown to be stable. So, it is a good time to get Gun Log just in case the price goes up. I might not change the price, but I will consider it.

Send me emails if you have ideas or concerns.

Gun Log Future Plans

I am currently designing the next release of Gun Log and Gun Log +P. The next release will be a significant update. This will take several weeks. I may release the changes through several updates or wait and deliver it all in one release. I truly expect this to take a long time. If you have any requests it would be the time to email them.

Gun Log 4.7 has shipped!

The external ballistics calculator has been updated.

There are two controls, one of which controls the detail level of the output and the other controls the maximum range of the calculations.

Here is a screen shot.

Gun Log 4.3 is available!

(If you want export, printing, and email you should use Gun Log +P)
(Check out the NRA American Warrior,  edition Number 5.)

I have been working on the UI of Gun Log. Gun Log +P has a lot of features that are applicable to Gun Log so I brought some of those features over.

As with the original release of Gun Log, the purpose of this app is to give back to the firearm friendly community. I have had users ask me why I do not charge more. I think it the app is worth a lot more myself, but I must stick to the original purpose and promises of the app.

The new version has changed some views. The flow and working of the application hasn't changed so I will not go into a detailed tutorial because of the new features. Please browse the blog for older posts for details on entering data.

Gun Log 4.3

The main views can get very long. Sorting and filtering help manage those long lists.

When picking an ammo for a firing set the ammo picker now filters on the caliber of the weapon.

Here are a few screen shots. Notice the tool bar at the top with filter and sorting buttons.

Notice the ammo and weapons picker changes. If a firing set, if you pick the weapon first the caliber of the weapon is passed to the ammo picker. If you have not entered a round count for your ammo the app considers you have no ammo on hand, so click "All" at the upper right. You can always turn the caliber filter off as well.

Following are iPhone/iPod touch screen shots. Enjoy the new features. Thank you!.

Gun Log 4.2 Available

Thank you for buying Gun Log 4.2.

Please rate Gun Log on the App store. With every new update the ratings are cleared.

What does a paper log book cost? Gun Log is probably cheaper than that!

This release is a minor release fixing some issues that have been reported.

Here are some screen shots of Gun Log 4.3.

Gun Log keeps your data safe. There is no email or iCloud services in Gun Log. If you want iCloud sync and printing/exporting of reports then you should use Gun Log +P.

Bug in Configurations List

A very helpful user found a bug in Gun Log's weapon configurations list. If you navigate by tapping the blue arrow it doesn't load a a weapon configuration. Since no real weapon configuration was loaded into the weapon configuration details view it gives the appearance that it is not saving changes.

Thank you for finding this tricky issue. I verified it in Gun Log and searched all the code to see if any such problem exists elsewhere.

I will put this fix in the next release.

For now, just tap the middle of the row to navigate, don't tap the blue arrow button.

Sorry about that.
